Local 727 Membership Lauds Striking Coca-Cola Workers at Meeting

Teamsters Local 727 members were recognized for their commitment to the union, and President John Coli Jr. thanked the membership for another successful year during the union meeting on Dec. 20.

In addition, the nearly 300 members in attendance unanimously voted to donate $25 Jewel-Osco gift cards to Coca-Cola Refreshments workers in Niles and Alsip who on Dec. 3 were forced to strike the company over unfair labor practices.

“The kindness, generosity and solidarity of this union never ceases to amaze me,” Coli said.

Dozens of the striking workers attended the meeting and were applauded and given standing ovations for the strength and unity they’ve shown over the last three weeks.

The union also honored Local 727 parking member Kenneth Warmack, who is retiring after 55 years as a Teamster. Coli presented Warmack with a plaque to commemorate his career.

“Thank you for the decades of hard work you have dedicated to your job, your co-workers and your union,” Coli said. “We are proud to have you in our union family, and we wish you well in all of your future endeavors.”

Coli also presented 22 members with perfect attendance certificates and Jewel-Osco gift cards as tokens of appreciation for attending every 2015 membership meeting.

“This is a true testament to the kind of people we have in our local union,” Coli said. “These members have made the union a priority, and we are grateful for their unwavering commitment.”
