President John Coli Jr. presided as officers and representatives updated the membership on contracts, grievances, arbitrations and other union business during Teamsters Local 727’s general meeting on May 21, 2017.

In the last month, Local 727 negotiated and ratified new contracts with Double Tree Oakbrook and Go Airport – Renaissance Hotel Shuttle. The union also has several ongoing contract negotiations, arbitrations, unfair labor practices against employers, and organizing campaigns.

Local 727 filed an unfair labor practice charge against the Dr. Pepper Snapple Group stemming from unlawful unilateral changes to the collective bargaining agreement and unlawful employer retaliation against employees who engaged in the protected activity of testifying at an arbitration hearing. This ULP charge followed a landmark win by the union concerning the 90,000-pound load-out policy.

“Dr. Pepper’s unlawful behavior to deter and prevent employees from testifying in the future is something the union will not stand for,” said John Coli Jr., President of Local 727. “The union is proud of the employee who came forward at the arbitration hearing and we will continue to fight for them!”

Referencing the unfair labor practice strike against Allied Universal at Navy Pier, Secretary-Treasurer John T. Coli implored members to make their presence felt at the picket line in a show of support for the strikers. “I think it’s important to get family and friends out there and involved,” said Coli. “I also think it’s despicable that Navy Pier management would team up with a company such as Allied Universal that pays poverty-level wages and has a history of hiring unqualified, poor-behaving employees. You get what you pay for with this company.”

President Coli invited members, their families and friends to the Pier on Saturday, May 27, to join the strikers for a rally beginning at 8:00 p.m. Folks could then stay and watch the fireworks show in honor of Memorial Day.

Finally, President Coli was presented with a plaque by member Henry Elias in honor of Local 727’s generous support of his daughter Olivia’s cheerleading team – Tinley Park Bobcats.

The next general membership meeting will be held at noon on Sunday, September 24, 2017, at the Local 727 meeting hall, 1300 W. Higgins Road, Suite 114, Park Ridge, IL. Pastries and coffee will be served, and prizes will be raffled.
