Osco Wrongfully Forcing Pharmacists to Work Mandatory Overtime

| June 21, 2016

Osco management is attempting to force pharmacists to work mandatory overtime in order to attend meetings to discuss the company’s contract proposal — a clear violation of the collective bargaining agreement.

Teamsters Local 727 representatives have filed a grievance, citing Section 4.2 of the CBA, which states, “There shall be no mandatory overtime in excess of the maximum workday or standard workweek except for vacation coverage and emergencies.”

“These mandatory meetings absolutely do not constitute emergencies,” said John T. Coli, Secretary-Treasurer of Local 727. “This is an obvious contract violation, and the union is fighting against it.”

Under federal law, Osco may not change the status quo of any working condition during bargaining even though the contract has expired.

The Local 727 Bargaining Committee urges pharmacists to reject the company’s offer, which now goes to a member vote via mail ballot.

If you have questions or have been forced to work mandatory overtime to attend a meeting, contact your Local 727 business representative, Zach Frankenbach, at (847) 696-7500 or [email protected].
