Notice to CDT Members Regarding Misrepresentations Surrounding Recent Bonuses

| May 2, 2019

Teamsters Local 727 understands that the Company has made misrepresentations surrounding recent bonuses distributed to Cook DuPage Transportation garage employees and would like to clarify the matter for all members.

According to CDT, a National Express corporate initiative has given $1,000 bonuses to all bus and paratransit maintenance department employees nationwide as a reward for these employees having allegedly met or exceeded their shop goals and/or Key Performance Indicators (KPIs).  Since Local 727 members working in CDT’s garage are considered employees of the maintenance department, they too received this bonus.

Local 727 was not involved in the decision to award or distribute these bonuses.  Local 727 may only enforce the negotiated wages that are included in the CDT collective bargaining agreement.  Since the Union contract sets only minimum wage rates, the Company may introduce bonuses like these.

While the Union did propose the introduction of a bonus incentive program during the parties’ last contract negotiations, CDT rejected the proposal.  Local 727 intends to again propose a similar program when the Union and CDT reopen negotiations in September.

“All of our members work hard day-in and day-out,” said John Coli, Jr., Secretary-Treasurer of Local 727.  “I call on CDT to award bonuses to each and every one of its employees in recognition of their dedication and hard work.”

Any further questions related to National Express’ bonuses should be directed to CDT General Manager Matt Lundgren.

Members with questions regarding the Local 727 contract should contact Business Representative Donnie Von Moore at (773) 403-1032 or [email protected].

Nothing in this article should be read as the union’s waiver of any legal argument, position or additional grievance. The union does not forfeit its right to make any and all supplemental arguments.
