Negotiations Resume for Members at SCI/Alderwoods Funeral Homes

| June 24, 2016

The Teamsters Local 727 Bargaining Committee and SCI d/b/a Alderwoods management met for several hours on June 23, the first time the parties have been at the bargaining table in more than a year.

The Local 727 Bargaining Committee presented revised proposals for increases to wages and 401(k) contributions. The union also is seeking to stabilize employees’ health care costs and to ensure the availability of a fully functional electric lift at every facility.

The company reviewed its last proposal from Aug. 14, 2014, but made no changes. The union and management have agreed to meet again in August and September to bargain more extensively.

“Our members are not asking for anything unreasonable, and we hope that when we return to the table, we can finally reach a fair agreement,” said John Coli Jr., President of Local 727.

Funeral directors, embalmers and drivers at four Chicago-area funeral homes operated by SCI d/b/a Alderwoods have been working without a contract since June 30, 2014.
