Local 727’s Swift Action Results in Reinstatement of Displaced Edward Hotel Workers

| August 16, 2017

Members Return to Work with Full Back-Pay and Union Benefits

Five Edward Hotel (formerly Holiday Inn Express O’Hare Rosemont) shuttle bus drivers have returned to work after being unjustly laid off because of an alleged hotel transportation department temporary service elimination. Immediately upon learning of the alleged service elimination, Teamsters Local 727 requested bargaining and ultimately filed an unfair labor practice charge.

As a result of the Union’s quick action, Local 727 was able to successfully negotiate a settlement with the hotel and the members were reinstated with full back-pay and union benefits for the two-month layoff period.

“This is a huge win for the Union, said John Coli, Jr., Secretary-Treasurer of Local 727. “Local 727 will not back down when employers attempt to violate the collective bargaining agreement and unilaterally implement changes or institute layoffs. We are always prepared to fight for members unjustly displaced by companies like the Edward Hotel, and employers can expect a robust response from Local 727.”

In addition to receiving full back-pay and benefits, the shuttle drivers also will be paid for any/all trainings and licensing requirements by the employer for use of its new extra-large passenger shuttle bus.
