Local 727 Wins Grievances, Secures Back Pay for Two CDT Employees

| January 30, 2017

Teamsters Local 727 recently settled two grievances and secured substantial back pay for two bargaining unit employees with Cook-DuPage Transportation (CDT).

One driver represented by Local 727 was put out of service by Pace and unfairly terminated by CDT. The union filed a grievance on her behalf and, after just four days off the job, the Teamster was returned to work in the same job classification. Local 727’s immediate action and defense for the member ensured the employee was compensated for all lost wages during her time off.

A second driver’s wage rate was unilaterally reduced by CDT management. The error by the company left the Teamster earning wages that were less than what she made prior to the ratification of the current Local 727 collective bargaining agreement on Feb. 26, 2015. The union filed a grievance on the matter to protect the members’ wages.

The grievance was settled in the union’s favor on Dec. 5, 2016. The Teamster-represented employee received back pay and was made whole for all wages lost since the time of CDT’s clerical mistake. The worker’s wage rate also was returned to that following contract ratification.

“Whether large or small, any issue that affects our members’ wages, benefits or working conditions is the top priority for the union,” said John Coli Jr., President of Local 727. “Our representatives and attorneys will do whatever it takes to enforce our contracts and protect our members — at CDT and with every employer represented by the Teamsters.”

CDT members should never hesitate to reach out to the union with any issues. Anyone with questions should contact Local 727 Business Representative Donnie Von Moore at (847) 696-7500 or via email at [email protected].

Nothing in this article should be read as the union’s waiver of any legal argument, position or additional grievance. The union does not forfeit its right to make any and all supplemental arguments.
