Local 727 Stands with Local 25 Members, Donates $5,000 to Support Striking Teamsters in Boston

| October 3, 2019

Teamsters Local 727 is proud to stand in solidarity with our fellow Teamster Brothers and Sisters of Local 25.

According to recent press releases from Teamsters Local 25, 24 members of the Boston-area local initiated a strike against their employer, Republic Services Marshfield, on Thursday, August 29 in pursuit of “respect, a fair wage, and the ability to support their families.”

To assist the Republic Services employees in their fight, Local 727 has donated $5,000 to the Teamsters Local 25 Strike Fund.

“Local 727 is proud to support our Teamster Brothers and Sisters in their fight for respect, a livable wage, and affordable health care,” said John Coli, Jr., Secretary-Treasurer of Local 727.  “Our members have seen firsthand the strength that comes from unity.  In our own fights against greedy corporate bullies, the support of our communities and fellow Teamsters have been essential to our success.”

Just last year, Local 727 drivers working for the American Bottling Company, a Keurig Dr Pepper subsidiary, initiated a 40-day unfair labor practice strike to protest the Soda Giant’s unfair labor practices.  Together, with support from the community, local representatives, and fellow union members, Local 727’s solidarity and perseverance resulted in an astounding victory for the Teamster drivers.

“Teamster power and success has always been firmly rooted in our union solidarity,” added Secretary-Treasurer Coli.  “Local 727 is proud to carry on this legacy as we stand with and support the members on Local 25 in their pursuit of dignity and fair treatment.”
