Union Readies Paperwork to Approve Strike Benefits for Osco Pharmacists

| April 28, 2016

Teamsters Local 727 representatives are preparing to file the necessary paperwork with the International Brotherhood of Teamsters to approve strike benefits for Osco pharmacists in the event of a labor dispute.

The ongoing contract negotiations between the Local 727 Bargaining Committee and Osco management have been difficult, with little progress made after five meetings. Negotiations are set to resume at 10 a.m. Friday, April 29, with no additional bargaining dates scheduled. The current three-year contract covering about 500 Chicago-area Osco pharmacists expires May 7.

“We are making the necessary preparations to ensure our pharmacist members are taken care of if we cannot reach a fair agreement,” said John T. Coli, Secretary-Treasurer of Local 727. “This union vows to stand with our members every step of the way and we’ll continue to fight for them no matter what.”

Additionally, Teamsters Local 710 has urged its Jewel warehouse and transportation workers to support Osco pharmacists in the event of a labor dispute. The workers’ recently ratified contract includes new language that allows them to honor any picket line involving Jewel-Osco employees.
