Local 727 Files ULP Charges Against Chicago Jewish Funerals Over Company’s Regressive Bargaining and Threats of Retaliation

| August 21, 2019

For nearly two years, Teamsters Local 727 has bargained in good faith with representatives of Chicago Jewish Funerals as the parties worked to reach a fair agreement over a successor collective bargaining agreement covering funeral directors, embalmers, and auto livery drivers.  Though Company representatives agreed to a Union proposal which included full retroactivity, Chicago Jewish Funerals began informing employees that it would not pay the agreed upon retroactive wage increases.  Additionally, the owner of Chicago Jewish Funerals recently threatened retaliation against bargaining unit employees.

As a result of the Company’s actions, Local 727 has filed an Unfair Labor Practice charge against Chicago Jewish Funerals with Region 13 of the National Labor Relations Board.

“Local 727 will not back down when our members’ rights are infringed upon,” said John Coli, Jr., Secretary-Treasurer of Local 727.  “We will continue to fight to hold Chicago Jewish Funerals accountable for its unlawful regressive bargaining and threats.”

All ULP charges filed against Chicago Jewish Funerals are currently pending with the NLRB.  The Union will update members as the Labor Board’s investigation proceeds.
