Local 727 Drops Banner of Protest Against Navy Pier Executives

| May 8, 2017

If you happened to be walking or driving under the Wabash Ave. bridge at the intersection of Illinois St. early this morning, then you saw Teamsters Local 727’s message to the public:

PROBLEMS AT THE PIER!
Security, Fire & Safety Officers
JOBS AT RISK

“We want everyone to know how despicable Navy Pier’s executives are by their callous treatment of long-time employees of the Pier,” said John Coli Jr., President of Local 727. “Many of these folks can’t afford to live on a 30% wage cut, and they certainly don’t deserve to lose their pensions or have their health care coverage slashed.”

It appears that Navy Pier, Inc., the company that manages the Pier, and Allied Universal, the company NPI hired to handle security operations at the Pier, colluded to replace the current 43 security, fire and safety officers with Allied’s security personnel.

The ‘Jobs At Risk’ banner Local 727 created will move around the city so as many people as possible can receive the message and will hopefully call Navy Pier, as the banner instructs, and tell them to honor the dedicated public servants who work there.
