Local 727 and Hyatt O’Hare Ratify Richest Contract in Hyatt History

| April 5, 2017

After many bargaining sessions and countless hours, the Teamsters Local 727 Bargaining Committee and Hyatt Regency O’Hare management reached agreement on a new contract for the hotel’s 34 union members, which include shuttle bus drivers, bellmen, doormen, and valet hikers. Ratified, members will receive a full wage increase retroactive to January 1, 2017, the first year of a five-year contract expiring December 31, 2021.

“Hyatt management and the union bargaining team were able to work together very productively to reach a fair agreement for our members,” said John T. Coli, Secretary-Treasurer of Local 727. “And we couldn’t be happier with the outcome, it is the richest contract ever negotiated with Hyatt, more than 40% higher than any previous contract.”

Among the highlights of the new master agreement are a 5% overall increase to wages and benefits each year, which will result in a $0.51/hour wage increase in year 1; a $1,000 ratification bonus; and maintenance of 727 health insurance, pension, and legal/educational benefits. Employees are also to receive 100% of the delivery charges, which equals more than a 60% increase in compensation.

“I’m extremely proud of each member of our bargaining team for all of their hard work and commitment to see this through,” said hotel steward Curt Ziedrich. “These were by far the toughest negotiations between the union and Hyatt in its history, so achieving this resulting contract is no small feat.”
