Under President John T. Coli, Teamsters Focus on Future Growth, Sustained Unity

More than 100 Teamster delegates representing 27 local unions across Illinois and northwest Indiana have unanimously re-elected the executive board of Teamsters Joint Council 25.

In a meeting of delegates on Nov. 3, 2015, at Teamster City, President John T. Coli praised the unity and perseverance of Joint Council 25 — one of the Teamsters Union’s strongest regional bodies and a thriving support system for more than 100,000 workers. The seven-member executive board won re-election by acclamation and began another four-year term on Jan. 1.

“The representatives of Teamsters Joint Council 25 lead by example — working every day to protect hardworking people and champion more rights, better pay and real advantages in the workplace,” said Coli, who also serves as Secretary-Treasurer of Teamsters Local 727. “I am humbled by the unity of our local union affiliates and I am grateful to have their continued support. When the Teamsters stand tall and stand together, there’s nothing we can’t accomplish for our members.”

In addition to President Coli, the executive board includes Secretary-Treasurer Thomas W. Stiede of Teamsters Local 703; Vice President Terrence J. Hancock of Teamsters Local 731; Recording Secretary Brian Meidel of Teamsters Local 734; Trustee James T. Glimco of Teamsters Local 777; Trustee Michael L. Yauger of Teamsters Local 786; and Trustee Becky Strzechowski of Teamsters Local 700. Executive board members were sworn in at the Jan. 12 delegates meeting.

Coli has served as President of Joint Council 25 since 2002. He and Strzechowski also serve as Teamsters International Vice Presidents for the Central Region.

For more than a decade, Coli and the executive board have dramatically expanded the services and influence of Joint Council 25 to improve the lives of working people in Chicago, Illinois and northwest Indiana. With dynamic political and communications departments, and an army of full-time Teamster organizers assisting local unions, Joint Council 25 delivers services to empower members and affiliates while simultaneously growing the union.

In recent years, the Joint Council established one of the largest Women’s Committees for Teamster women in the nation, raised hundreds of thousands of dollars to support dozens of local and national charities, and reinvested in its Employers and Apprenticeship Training Fund to help members and military veterans find gainful employment, earn workplace certifications and obtain commercial driver’s licenses.

“Particularly in Illinois and Indiana, the Teamsters Union is better positioned and better equipped to defend the rights of working people than any other union,” Coli said. “The leadership that exists today within all of our regional local unions will pay dividends for hardworking Teamster members for years to come.”

Teamsters Local 727 is an affiliate of Teamsters Joint Council 25, America’s premier labor union for Chicago, Illinois and northwest Indiana.
