First Transit Agrees to Meet Again After Paratransit Drivers Unanimously Reject Contract Offer
First Transit management has agreed to meet again with the Teamsters Local 727 Bargaining Committee after drivers at the DuPage paratransit facility unanimously rejected the company’s unreasonable last, best and final contract offer on Nov. 24.
The offer included meager wages and benefits far below the industry standards.
“Over and over, we told the company that this offer was unacceptable and that they needed to do better, but they refused to listen,” said John Coli Jr., President of Local 727 and lead negotiator. “Perhaps our message has finally gotten through because our members’ unanimous rejection of management’s offer could not be more clear.”
The Teamsters Local 727 Bargaining Committee is waiting for First Transit management to confirm an additional bargaining meeting so the union and the company reach a fair agreement.
“Our members have stood together throughout this bargaining process and they have spoken out in one voice,” Coli said. “It is high time that First Transit management actually listens to the employees who are the public face of the company and treats them with the dignity and respect they deserve.”
Teamsters Local 727 represents more than 1,000 paratransit workers throughout the Chicago area.
