Secretary-Treasurer Coli Gives Financial Report at Member Meeting
Teamsters Local 727 Secretary-Treasurer John T. Coli reported on the union’s strong financial health as more than 150 members, officers, representatives and staff gathered for the general membership meeting on Feb. 28.
Last year, Local 727’s membership grew a whopping 23 percent, thanks to several organizing victories and the transfer of beverage industry members from Teamsters Local 710, which has been in trusteeship since July 2014.
“We had the best year ever in the 100-year history of this local union, and we hope to keep the momentum going in 2016,” Coli said.
The local union’s membership has grown for eight consecutive years.
Local 727’s financial performance for 2015 is even more impressive when taking into account the unfair labor practice strike that forced 319 Coca-Cola Refreshments workers onto the picket line for 27 days.
Coca-Cola steward Carl Maxwell, who served on the Local 727 Bargaining Committee, thanked the union for standing with him and his co-workers.
“I can’t say enough about what a great team we have fighting for us at Local 727,” Maxwell said. “I’m so glad to have everyone on this board and the whole staff of this union in our corner.”
Local 727 soon will begin negotiating new contracts for some of the local union’s biggest bargaining units, including Pepsi, Osco and CVS. Union representatives have spent the past several weeks working with stewards and members to gather input and contract demands.
“We could have a tough road ahead of us, but as always, we are ready to take on any challenge and fight for our members every step of the way,” Coli said.
The next general membership meeting is scheduled for noon, Sunday, March 13, at the Local 727 meeting hall, 1300 W. Higgins Road, Suite 114, Park Ridge, IL 60068. Coffee and pastries will be provided, and prizes will be raffled.
Teamsters Local 727 represents nearly 10,000 hardworking men and women throughout the Chicago area.
