Union Wins Parking Member’s Reinstatement, Back Pay After Unjust Termination

A Teamsters Local 727 parking cashier has been reinstated with full back pay and benefits after the union fought against her wrongful termination.

Encore Hospitality Services terminated Catina Lockhart in July 2015 without just cause. Local 727 representatives swiftly filed a grievance and, after months of fighting for her job, were prepared to take the case to arbitration. However, the company finally agreed to settle the grievance, and Lockhart was recently reinstated to her position as part-time cashier at the Swissotel Chicago. She received $8,000 in back pay and full benefit contributions and experienced no loss of seniority.

The company also credited Lockhart with all owed vacation and sick time, and she received the $0.55 per hour raise she missed during her wrongful termination, per the collective bargaining agreement.

“A Teamster contract protects workers from being fired without just cause, but when employers violate that contract, the union is there to fight for our members every step of the way,” said John Coli Jr., President of Local 727.

Teamsters Local 727 represents more than 3,500 parking industry workers throughout the Chicago area.
